Empowering Youth Through Travel is a Chicago based 501(c)3 charity whose mission is to empower urban teens through hands-on learning of current, worldly issues; developing global leaders equipped with the skills to enact positive change at home and abroad.
Our program is composed of two components: the Supplemental Learning Experience (SLE) and Overseas Integration (OI). We focus on a different country and global theme each year. This theme is not only apparent in our own communities, but around the world. Our 2011-2012 theme is sustainability and the country we will travel to is Costa Rica. A curriculum has been developed which includes topics such as Biomicry, sustainable farming, composting, and geo-engineering. You may learn more about our programs curriculum here.
Through the SLE and OI, students participate in community service at home and abroad. We will partner with non-governmental organizations and institutions involved with and connected to our central theme. This provides our students with a real world, holistic application of the SLE.
